Can your hernia come back?

What is a recurrence?

A recurrence is when a hernia comes back, or "recurs." A hernia can come back for many reasons, including:

  • The type of hernia repair you had
  • The type of mesh used
  • Postsurgery infection
  • Patient history/risk factors

Are you at risk?

If you smoke, have diabetes, are overweight, or have had a prior hernia repair, you may be at greater risk for your hernia to come back.
